“Let’s go there next.”

Okamoto pointed at the pamphlet.

It was the second floor of the community building she was aiming at.

There seems to have been an exhibition hall, in addition to a resting spot set up there.

Oh it says it’s about the history of Hyousei Village. It’s written that there will even be dioramas, and tourist information.

It’s a small museum.

I’m interested now.

“Let’s go, it’s my first time seeing it.”

Fujisaki-san then added.

“How about you, Natsumi-chan?”

“I saw it with my dad before. It’s like an exhibit that goes through the timeline of our village.”

It makes sense for her to go. Her father is the mayor. So whenever there is a special exhibition, she will most likely get a sneak peek.

It’s actually using large rooms usually for meetings and classroom lectures.

Of course it is also free.

“Welcome, Hazuki-san.”

We were greeted by a female staff member.

“Hello! Arasawa-san.”

The mayor’s daughter is well known by the locals. And Natsumi-chan is  giving a lively greeting that does help improve the mayor’s image. She is good at that

. . .I can’t get sidetracked.

Once we entered we could see panels lined up along the path. It was going through the history of our village. It’s a pretty smart layout.

 But I don’t think there are that many people here. I guess that makes sense for a place that is more serious.

The people that are here are small groups of family that are just quickly stopping by. But some do seem genuinely interested.

The first exhibition is a large aerial view of the village.

It outlines the village in population and geography.

Blessed with rich nature, agriculture, and tourism is thriving.

“Oh, there is my house.”

“There is mine.”

Looking at it from here, the village is big.

The next panel displayed various pictures of Hyosei mountain.

Stating on the bottom. “Despite the fact that Japan’s larger mountains lose their snow cover in the summer. Hyousei mountain keeps it all year round. Puzzling scientist.”

“Hey, it says that the mountain was formed by a volcanic uplift about 15,000 years ago. .? The last known eruption was over 1000 years ago. . .I never knew.”

I never knew that either. I’m glad that this kind of trivia isn’t on our tests.

Oh, it says here that ruins were found of a village before Hyousei village. Confirming there were people living in this area before. . .- Source is from the Prefecture History Museum.

Pilgrimage and festivals are on another panel.

Though hard to know. Festivals were common. However I don’t think it’s this snow festival.

There was a little diagonal speech bubble with additional information.

“Oh! The Legend of the Yuki Onna. . .What?”

It’s the common story about the Yuki Onna who met a man and then had to part with him.

But also stating that there are other legends about them, specific to Hyousei Village. . .

From the blizzard she emerges to take those caught and confuse, to then capture and deprive the poor souls of their energy. Oh my.

“This is terrible.”

Then there was a portrait (estimate) of a Yuki Onna.

The face was wrinkled, hair dry, eyes grim. Her head also had horns. Was this a Yuki Onna?

Without thinking I put my hand on my head.

“Uwaaaaaa!”

Suddenly, a girl began to cry while riding on the shoulder of her father.

She was soothed with a “yosh yosh” and rushed ahead.

Apparently she got scared by the Yuki Onna.

“This is a caution.”

“Uwa!”

Suddenly a voice came from behind me. I looked behind to see a very old man.

His hair and eyebrows were completely white, and he had a beard like a hermit.

“Ah, Yamano Kura-san, how are you doing?”

Natsumi-chan then gave a greeting as if she was familiar with him.

“Oh, It’s Hazuki-san’s daughter. You’ve gotten so big.”

“This is. . ?”

“This is Yamano Kura-san, he was the former mayor before my father.”

Speaking of which. . .The staff around us were also paying close attention to him.

The person himself had a solid langue, and the atmosphere of a decent man.

“To prevent young men from the village getting a temptation and entering the mountain, we used an ugly monster, instead of a beautiful one.”

He then explained to us.

“Everyone who actually met them said they were very beautiful ladies.”

“Is that so?”

“That’s right.”

“Well I’ve never seen it. . .But I think it’s probably made from hallucination and a fear of nature.”

Then laughter was echoed through the exhibition hall.

However, I’m here, right before everybody’s eyes.

By the way, wasn’t Natsumi-chan’s papa the one that brushed aside the old mayor?

I was a kid so I don’t remember.

Anyways there is no new information about a Yuki Onna here.

“Hey look.”

“Yukiya-chan, let’s go together.”

Before I knew it, Fujisaki-san and Okamoto-san went on ahead.

This is often the case with these exhibitions. You simply take a quick peak and then move on.

I did want to take a closer look. But I guess I’ll have to do it later.

After leaving the exhibition space, a staff member handed us a souvenir bag.

“Yatta!”

“Awesome.”

Okatamoto immediately opened her bag and took something out.

What is it?

I curiously looked in mine.

It was a clear file key chain of Hyousei-kun.

Geeze, thanks.

Also in the back of the bag, there was a heavy 250 ml heavy aluminum can.

“Oh, what’s in the can?”

“Juice? Cider?”

We took it out and read the label.

“Delicious water from Hyousei village. . .”

Our excitement was quickly eliminated. It’s tap water?

Well I guess what could you expect?

We left the community center on our way to a new venture. Until I was stopped by the sight of a luxury car parked at the parking lot.

“Aah, Everything is proceeding as planned- – -.”

Is that. . .Kouko-san’s father?

He is on the phone with somebody.

It seems like they are having a business like conversation, but he had a rugged face.

Then a man in a suit came and opened the back door of the car respectfully for him.

They even have a chauffeur. . .Amazing.

“Oh, Kouko’s friends. We meet again.”

He suddenly changed his expression to a smile once he noticed us.

But then he looked closely at me. His face stiffened.

“You are. . .”

He looked long and hard at me.

“Well, excuse me.”

Then gave us three a nod, and got in. The car then started and he left.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seems like the father may know. And what is that plan he was talking about? An expansion? Buying out the town? Or something even more devious? We’ll just have to wait and see.
I personally enjoyed this chapter, and the next one will continue the snow festival adventure.
Next chapter in 2-3 days.
    1. lol. If you do read them, please don’t spoil. But I’m also getting impatient. Pretty sure she has an idea or suspicion. It’s only been a month of them knowing eachother. So we’ll have to wait. The author did alot of foreshadowing , so I’m sure they will play the card.
  1. Huh. So either Kouko’s father has heard about Yukiya being very rude to his daughter or he has his sight set on the restaurant
    1. the sight on the res truant will be scary. Even more so if he knows about the fued. He might want revenge. But I’m thinking he may be suspicious if about her being a Yuki Onna. There is obviously a connection between the hotel and the Yuki Onna. Even more so with the hint that Kouko’s mom was coerced into it. Perhaps he is obsess with them.
