Part 1:

 Hikura Daisuke spent his breakfast eating an extravagant meal before going to work.

The breakfast was prepared by the servants, and was already made before he even got his coffee.

Once finished, the plates disappeared as quickly as they appeared.

In the morning air, he enjoyed the aroma of freshly ground coffee, which was made by the finest beans. While reading the newspaper, mainly dealing with the economy.

You could see a vast well maintained garden from the window, but it was in the winter so most of the vegetation was dormant. But among them, the camellia flowers were beautiful and blooming.

The ground was cold, and the window fogged. Thick ice also covered the pond.

The weather report even predicted some snowfall in the evening.

“Master, Your departure time is soon.”

The old waiter then said.

“Ah. . .Already?”

He looked at the classical gorgeous clock on the wall, and confirmed it was about time to go to work. He placed his coffee down, and got up.

It was then his wife Haruko spoke to him.

“You know, today is our wedding anniversary.”

Haruko had another housekeeper helping her prepare her makeup and clothes. It seems she was preparing to meet her group of friends.

“I know.”

Daisuke dressed in his high-class suite and fastened his tie in front of the mirror.

“I usually go drinking with my co-workers, but I’ll cancel my plans. – -”

His wife, Haruko, was a gilded cage daughter. Was from a good family, who was quiet and jealous. Elementary school, junior high, and high school. She went to an all girl school only for the rich.

Since she was always listened to, she had an egotistical side.

It’s also to note, that they had no children, because they both were often busy with hobbies or work.

“Understood.”

The sound of a car starting could be heard outside of the house.

The chauffeur patiently waited for Daisuke to come out.

“I’m off. . .”

The black luxury foreign car emitted white smoke as the exhaust met the cold air.

The chauffeur then respectfully opened the door for him.

“Greetings, sir.”

Daisuke then got in the luxury car.

Hikura Daisuke is the vice president for the Hikura company.

He graduated from a prestigious university in economics. And studied abroad. At just the age of 35, he was at the top of the social ladder.

Being the son from a distinguished family, he was always destined for greatness.

However he wasn’t always so sober. When he was younger, combined with his good looks and high social position. He indulged in a playboy lifestyle, with flash girls and high class parties.

But after joining the family company, and being guaranteed his future presidency. He changed courses, married his current wife, and went into his successful career.

Already receiving a secret nomination to be the successor to the family house, he was given an estate by his father.

In the eyes of everyone, destined to be the next president. Born to a brilliant family. Daisuke was gifted with an amazing life.

However his only concern was that he had no children.

A woman in a kimono was walking through the city.

Building blocked the horizon in the concrete jungle. Cars passing by, horns honked, engines blared, and crowds polluted the city sound.

The woman was slowly walking through with a frown on her face.

The stagnant air was full of exhaust, and the noises from the crowd made the woman feel uncomfortable.

“Human dwellings are so. . .Unclean.”

Feeling nauseous, she put her hand over her mouth.

“You there, excuse me.”

She called out to a construction worker in the front of a construction site.

“Where is the Hikura building?

The male worker was astonished for a second, because a sudden beauty in a kimono, just abruptly talked to him. It wasn’t just the beauty, but also her attire for mid winter.

“Uh. Hikura building? Oh you mean the big silly building. It’s that devilish horned building – – -.”

He pointed to a particularly shaped massive skyscraper that could be seen in the distance.

“Thank you very much.”

With an icy smile, she thanked him.

“U-uhm, what that. . .!?”

The man choked on his words. He felt ice cold air from the woman.

He immediately looked away in fear. Not seeing her walk away.

“What are you doing, Beppin? That was a beauty, how could you let her leave without getting her number. What a waste.”

One of his co-workers came.

The quivering man just shook his head.

“No, that. . .Woman is a woman you want to stay away from, no matter how beautiful.”

Eventually she arrived before the building. Men and women dressed in suits quickly travel around the business section of the city.

Some looked at the particularly dressed woman, but most people in the indifferent, hectic, urban life, simply ignored her.

“Here it is. . .”

The woman looked up to the building that was attempting to reach the sky.

“I finally found you. . .Daisuke-san.”

In the meeting room on the 55th floor of the Hikura company. A meeting for executives continued from the morning.

Employees surrounded the long rectangle table. Wrinkles on their forehead, as they discussed the plans going forward.

Daisuke was sitting in the middle as the vice president, looking over the submitted materials.

Carefully watching the man presenting his report.

The young employee couldn’t help but shrink from the look.

“You! What is this report? The resort development in Okinawa is far behind schedule.”

Daisuke then quickly threw out the paper.

The air in the meeting room froze.

The topic of the meeting was about the resort.

“Why is the cost inflating? Why is the construction period being delayed?”

“It was more expensive than expected to get the site, and due to economic factors, the cost of materials increased. . .”

“That’s not something we’ll discuss right now. And it’s something that should have been predicted in advance for the budget. Immediately figure out what is causing this, and improve the plan!”

“Y-Yes. . .”

He humbly lowered his head and carried out the folder of the plans. Leaving the meeting room.

“Next?”

He gazed at the other executives who were facilitators of the meeting.

All of them, much older than him, were afraid.

“T-The next on schedule is the redevelopment project in the front of the Tokyo station- -.”

“Geeze, does it ever end?”

Sitting in his vice president office, he took a deep breath and sat at his desk.

A hot tea that was brought by his secretary helped clear his throat.

Even after the meeting, there was still much work to be done. Payment receipts, emails, and receiving visitors.

He looked out the window, and saw the sun was steadily sinking.

“Crap, I need to hurry. . .”

Daisuke then remembered the promise he made with his wife.

The anniversary of their wedding.

He often works nights, or goes to business nights.

Getting up from his chair, he picked up the landline to call his secretary.

“!?”

However he couldn’t pick it up.

It was frozen.

“What the. . .”

Examining closely, it was really cold.

Along with being stuck in ice. He couldn’t get it off.

“C-Cold. . .”

Before he knew it. The room went cold.

He looked at the heater and noticed it wasn’t working, contrary, it was frozen.

“W-What the hell?”

The hot tea was cold to the touch.

The room became a freezer.

Besides that, it was eerily silent. There was always a sign of people in the office, but he couldn’t hear the footsteps or conversations.

“Oi, Anybody!”

Placed in an abnormal situation, he tried to call out to a secretary, or an employee.

But as he rushed out, what he saw he couldn’t believe.

The secretary became ice.

A veteran in her thirties. Now frozen in a pose listening to the landline. Not moving an inch. In fact everyone was frozen.

“W-What the hell. . .”

It was then. A door from the corridor suddenly opened.

“H-Hey. . .”

However what came out was something completely different from his workers.

“Huh.”

A young beautiful woman. Skin white as snow, For some reason only wearing a white kimono.

He started to back off to his office, but it was then she recognized him.

Her sharp eyes went wide as she saw him.

“Daisuke-san!”

She ran to him in a short run. And hugged him without hesitation.

Her body was ice cold.

“Daisuke-san, I wanted to see you.”

Like a cat, she clung to him.

“W-Who are you?”

The woman then looked up.

“Who. . ?”

She looked like she didn’t register.

He desperately traced his memories.

Thinking of every woman he played with from over the course of more than 10 years.

Certainly when he was younger, he certainly wasn’t faithful. And often had relationships with multiple women at the same time.

However once he settled down with his marriage, and joined the company, he ended that lifestyle.

But he was safe. Always used a rubber.

There was never an omission.

The woman smiled and twirled her long hair.

“Well, Daisuke-san. You are good at jokes. You couldn’t forget about me.”

“W-Well . . .”

Sorting through the faces he memorized, none matched.

Then the smile disappeared on her face.

“For real. . .Are you serious?”

The woman’s face turned ruthless.

“Did you forget?”

It became cold, a terrifying expression. It went cold.

But familiar.

The threads of memory connected.

“I-Impossible. . .”

It was real. The only relationship that didn’t end definitely. The partner who he only had a physical relationship with.

Chapter 51: Part 2.

Over 10 years ago.

In a similar winter season to this one.

Daisuke Hikura went skiing on Hyousei mountain with his friends.

However he slipped, and got knocked off the normal ski slope. It wasn’t devastating though. He was still on the ski course, but was merely away from his group.

But boredom got to him, and he stepped out to an area that was off limits.

It was a real pleasure to ski on fresh snow that wasn’t compacted.

Not having to share the space with anybody.

Though soon he lost his way home.

When he noticed it was too late. And any traces were erased by a sudden snow storm.

A raging one.

I was as if the mountain was angry at him.

Bent over he tried to overcome the blizzard.

Hoping somehow someone will come to his rescue.

“So cold, I’ll die.”

He managed to find a small hold to hide in.

While awaiting judgement, fear soon came.

He prayed to the gods he didn’t believe in.

He was desperate,

Then after a while he felt a presence.

Thinking rescue came he was overjoyed. His face lifted from depression to see the savior.

But it wasn’t help.

It was an eerie figure.

“W-Who. . .are you. . .?”

It was a young woman, with pure white skin. Dark long black hair, and wearing a kimono. Firmly she stood, not shivering in the cold freezing air.

“Oh, you are still conscious. You wouldn’t have suffered if you just fell asleep.”

The woman’s voice was cold, and sharp.

“You have broken the law, and entered the forbidden land on the mountain days, so you must be punished.”

“W-What are you talking about?”

“But don’t worry. You won’t die. I shall keep your soul forever in our ice.”

The snowstorm whirlwind around the woman’s body.

Creating an eerie whirring sound.

“W-Wait!”

Finally the man realized this was a Yuki Onna. A beautiful and horrifying existence that has long been talked about by the locals in this country side.

Despite knowing that, he convinced himself that he must survive.

His instinctual desire to escape, turned into thoughts abnormal at the end.

“Y-You. . .Are beautiful!”

“What are you talking about?”

“Oh, there is no such beauty in the human world!”

“!?”

The woman was actually very beautiful.

If he saw her in the city, he would use all his pick up techniques to woo her.

Oddly enough, he ended up using the only skills he perfected up this point.

And somehow, one thing led to another, and they had a personal encounter.

“Be sure to come back please- – -”

Daisuke never visited the mountain again, despite saying he would meet her again next winter.

He convinced himself that everything he saw on the mountain was an illusion. And he merely wondered his way back to civilization.

It was the only reality that made sense.

Eventually he joined the company, and successfully married a partner that was introduced about 6 years after that event.

She was his current wife, Haruko.

– -He had a late marriage because he continued to play around after that event. Up until he finally settled down.

He had forgotten about what happened on Hyosei mountain. Or perhaps he repressed those memories.

But he remembers now.

The woman who was in front of him now was surely the woman from that illusion.

It’s been more than 10 years, yet she looks the same.

“Daisuke-san, I returned to the village foot because you said you’d definitely come back next winter. . . I waited and yet you didn’t appear. . .”

Daisuke’s legs trembled not from the cold, but from fear.

It wasn’t a dream, it was reality- – –

“But, it’s okay. Because Daisuke-san and I are tied together by the threads of heaven.”

She leaned into Daisuke, as his face went tight.

“But, Kouko really wanted to meet you.”

“K-Kouko? W-What are you talking about?”

The woman was saying something he never heard of.

“Daisuke-san, a child was born between you and I. It’s our daughter.”

“W-What!?”

His mouth was agape. Unable to process what he was hearing.

“Daisuke-san and I have an irreplaceable jewel. It’s the jewel I always wanted. If it wasn’t for that, I would have never bothered coming to such a filthy human habitat.”

“I-I see. . .”

He was confused more than scared now.

He couldn’t believe that he had a daughter. Moreover a child with a Yuki Onna.

“So let’s live together on the mountain forever- – -Daisuke-san. For sure, you will come, right?”

Daisuke returned to reality and jumped for a second due to fear that he would be forcibly taken to the mountain.

“I, I understand. However. . .Give me some time.”

“Time?”

The woman frowned.

“What are you saying now?”

“I need time to prepare. . .There is a lot to be done. . .Such as a house and furniture.”

“. . .”

She thought for a while.

Daisuke was praying- – –

“Okay, when you are ready. However, I can’t wait too long. For Kouko’s sake- – -.”

She gave her demand.

Before he could fully register, a cold breeze and snow came in, and the figure of the woman quickly disappeared.

“I-I was saved. . .”

Once she was gone, the ice over people and the room disappeared.

Warm air finally blew from the heater.

He sat on his wet chair and took a great sigh. It was then he got a call.

The call was from the receptionist secretary.

“Vice president, your wife is calling.- – -”

The secretary’s tone was calm, despite just being frozen. It was as if nothing happened.

“U-Understood. Connect me.”

The line switch and a great voice stabbed into his ear.

“You! Where are you!? Why didn’t you answer your phone- – -.”

Daisuke then remembered. Today was their wedding anniversary, he promised to return early.

Looking at the clock, it was past 8:30 pm.

The chauffeur opened the door for him once he arrived at the house.

The car turning in caught his wife’s attention.

“Geeze. What time do you think it is? I was waiting for a long time.”

His wife Haruko was waiting. And her anger was visible.

Frowning face, and her arms folded.

“Well, what do you have to say for yourself!?”

Again the anger towards the husband came out, but then she closed her mouth.

“Yo. . .u”

She stopped saying anything.

Daisuke had a deep blue face, as if he just returned from a frozen hell.

“I’m sorry. . .”

Daisuke then hugged her. His face crumbled. Hoping to get some warmth. The winter cold from outside only reminds him of the recent encounter.

Haruko stopped saying anything. Her husband is different from the others.

There must have been a tough work exchange.

He is a responsible man, who has played a pivotal role in taking over the family company.

“I understand. But please make sure to make up for this.”

“A,Ah. . .”

“Geeze, don’t cry.”

Daisuke couldn’t hold it anymore. He cried upon his wife’s shoulder. The relief and fear, all of it hit him at once.

This is a place he could rest. He strongly felt he had to protect this house. But for now he was finally away from the torment.

“Ara. . .On your shoulder. . .There is snow.”

Daisuke looked at his shoulder.

The snow wasn’t melting away.  It stood solid on his shoulder.

“Huh!”

“Weird huh. It hasn’t even snowed yet. . .”

Haruko then leaned on her husband’s shoulder. While he had a face full of fear.

One month later.

On the 55th floor’s conference room, a heated conference was held.

The agenda was to achieve a project proposed by the vice president.

“Vice president, this project to advance to Hyosei village is progressing, but I must be honest sir. Isn’t it a bit reckless to invest so heavily into a ski resort. Especially when the popularity has been declining for a long time?”

“There is still difficulties in securing materials and personnel, etc- – -”

Employees and executives twisted their head around the sudden instructions, rushed all around trying to follow the vice president’s order.

“What you are talking about is a stagnation of an area, not decline. We will find new growth there. Our company will be ahead of the curve.”

Daisuke said to his confused employees.

However his fist was clenched, it was obvious of his impatience from his tone alone.

The meeting froze for a second as they realized his desperation.

“Ah, no. . .”

He cleared his throat.

“Anyways, let’s go ahead with the plan. . . of building a hotel. I need to secure a place to stay.”

“Y-Yes!”

All the members rushed to finish the sudden plans.

Hurried even quicker by the strong orders of the vice president.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LMAO I can’t believe he wooed her by doing the donkey technique from shrek. Somehow convincing the dragon to not eat him by saying she is beautiful. . .Actually I feel bad for Reiko. She got tricked so easily into a one night stand, and then lied to about a relationship. But then again, she was going to kill him. . .I guess this just shows how Yukiya’s dad is the true good one.
Also what does this mean for Kouko, or even his wife. I feel pretty bad for her. Dang husband had a hidden child, also did they get a divorce then? Or was Kouko introduced to her as a bastard daughter. Regardless, it’s a pretty messy situation.
Next chapter in 2-3 days. We will be going back to first person.
  1. As fun as it is to eatch their backstory, I would have rather seen the story continue. But sooner or later it would have needed to come since it seems important. Thanks for the translation!
    It being a story about a Yuki onna was the sole reason I picked it up. It is the first story ever with one as MC! Because of that it is fresh and new, something I have never seen before! I hope you commit to it until the end, please!
    1. The next chapter will be about and from Yukiya POV once again. It’s also the reason I crunched these two chapters together, so we could get back to Yukiya once again.
      And I’m glad you are enjoying it. Still having a blast translating it 52 chapters in. The writing style is always a joy to translate as well. So probably going to go on until it’s fully caught up.
    1. Yukiya also cares deeply about his mother and wanted to see her, even though they never met until recently. So Kouko’s father can have on effect on how she sees the worlds. And if the father is an asshole/arrogant. It could definitely warp her opinion. Same way Yukiya’s mother effects how she sees the Yuki Onna.
      Kouko is pretty much the opposite of Yukiya’s. In upbringing and all. Which makes her a great foil.
  2. The surprisingly good chapter. I’m still confused over so many things through. Like why are there so many Yuki onnas? There are at least 2more little ones, so they got normal human dads nearby as well, right? Also, who’s this mountain god fella? Hasn’t shown up still.
    1. I don’t know if the mountain god fella is a person. Maybe more of a spirit that guides them.
      Also I wonder how many actually live on the mountain. And what do they do to pass the time? The entrapment only happens on certain days. Is there a village? Or are they just like bears, with small family groups.
      Now you got me guessing. But I’m happy you enjoyed the chapters! 😀
  3. Yikes, I have seriously underestimated the power of Yuki Onnas in this universe. I’ve read a lot of fiction that featured these icy maidens and it only ever took a supernaturally powered ninja at most to deal with one but I can’t see these girls going down to anything less than a god. I mean, what Reiko did here was way beyond manipulating ice and snow or changing the weather. Judging by everyone’s complete lack of a reaction to the whole building freezing over i’d say she frickin froze time itself didn’t she?!
    As for Kouko’s Dad gotta say, I seriously misjudged him. I thought for sure he was either completely ignorant of the fact his wife and daughter were man eating monsters or he had to be some kind of sociopath who was totally OK with people eating…like Jeffrey Dahmer, he’s the only guy I would ship with Kouko. I can’t believe I didn’t consider the obvious third possibility that he was simply to scared of the monster to oppose her in any way, shape, or form. Feeling dumb now.
    1. On another note, what’s with Reiko being able to travel to a completely different city somewhere to go manhunting? I thought these Yuki Onna were forbidden to leave the mountain by their god or something. Yukina couldn’t even visit her own child for 16 years even once when he was living right there at the foot of the mountain and Reiko is free to completely skip town? So unfair. The rules here are confusing me.
      1. Yeah I never would have expected this plot twist. It’s a pretty awesome development if I’m honest. And the power they have is cool. But on the leaving the mountain, is was during the winter, and maybe they can only leave for a certain amount of time. Which is why she didn’t want to wait too much longer for Daisuke to decide.
  4. why are we still here? just for fillers?
    thankfully I have gotten that skill of picking out only the important part so I can skim through
    Like
    1. If there was important stuff, then it wouldn’t be filler. Would it? But I do see the point that it has been 4 3rd person chapters in a row. That all have not much to do with Yukiya.
